Description

Primavera wood, also known as “white mahogany” or “blonde mahogany,” is a tropical hardwood prized for its light color, natural luster, and excellent workability. It comes from the Roseodendron donnell-smithii tree and is native to Mexico and Central America.
Characteristics
Color: Ranges from a creamy white to a golden yellow. Over time, it can darken to a yellowish-rose with pinkish or brownish streaks.
Grain: Often straight but can also be slightly interlocked or wavy, creating attractive patterns. Quarter-sawn pieces can display a conspicuous ribbon-like figure, or “chatoyance,” similar to Sapele.
Texture: Medium to coarse, with a naturally high luster.
Workability: Generally easy to work with both hand and machine tools, though it has a moderate dulling effect on cutters due to silica content. It glues, stains, and finishes well. Pilot holes are recommended for screws and nails, as the wood can split.
Durability: The heartwood is somewhat resistant to decay but is susceptible to insect attack. It has good overall weathering properties.
Common uses
Primavera’s light tone and stable nature make it a versatile choice for a variety of projects.
High-end furniture: Used for fine furniture, cabinetry, and veneers.
Interior woodwork: Ideal for architectural millwork, paneling, and interior trim.
Musical instruments: Favored by some luthiers for acoustic and electric guitars.
Decorative items: Used for turned objects, boxes, and other specialty items.
