Description

Red Grandis wood, also known as Rose Gum or Flooded Gum from the Eucalyptus grandis tree, is a durable hardwood harvested from sustainably managed, FSC-certified plantations. It is considered an eco-friendly and cost-effective alternative to other reddish hardwoods like mahogany.
Characteristics
Color: The heartwood has a uniform pale pink to light reddish-brown color, which tends to deepen and darken over time.
Grain: It typically has a straight, uniform grain, with a moderately coarse texture. The wood sourced from plantations is specially grown and pruned to minimize knots, ensuring consistent grain patterns.
Density and Weight: Red Grandis is a medium-density hardwood, making it lighter in weight than many traditional hardwoods. This is an advantage for large projects where handling is a concern.
Durability: It offers good natural resistance to decay, mold, and insects. It is considered moderately durable, and when properly finished, it can last for decades in exterior applications.
Stability: The wood is known for its dimensional stability, meaning it has a low tendency to warp or move with changes in humidity.
Workability: Red Grandis is easy to work with using both hand and power tools. It glues, machines, and takes finishes well, though care is needed when cutting to prevent burning.
Sustainability: It is a highly sustainable material, as it is sourced from fast-growing plantations that are responsibly managed and FSC-certified. This reduces the pressure on natural old-growth forests.
Common uses
Red Grandis is a versatile and attractive wood suitable for a wide range of applications, both indoors and outdoors.
Architectural millwork: Its stability and consistent grain make it ideal for high-end applications like windows, doors, and moldings.
Furniture: It is a popular choice for crafting both indoor and outdoor furniture, including tables, chairs, and cabinetry.
Outdoor structures: Due to its decay resistance, it is well-suited for decking, fencing, and other exterior projects.
Flooring: Its durability and appealing reddish hue make it a popular material for hardwood flooring.
Veneer and plywood: It is also used to produce high-quality veneers and plywood.
